SAN JUAN CAPISTRANO, Calif., Oct. 11, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Prevo Health Solutions, a major stakeholder in Global Growables, Inc., has partnered with Fit2beKids to deliver a sustainable and scalable solution to childhood obesity. The solution includes; classroom and after-school curriculum from Fit2beKids and a Mobile Growable™ Unit (hydroponic indoor container garden) placed on location at schools, hospitals and in neighborhood parks.
The Mobile Growable Unit (MGU) grows as much as an acre of land, uses 10% of the water and produces up to 15,000 pounds of fresh, pesticide free and nutrient dense food per year at significantly lower cost than big-ag. The MGU feeds the kids and their families fresh low-cost or free leafy-greens and herbs in the lunchroom and provides a mechanism to sell the crops at farmer's markets and to local chefs. The funds are used to pay for all the expenses and any excess cash can be used to fund other school programs."For the last five years we have been helping dozens of families and hundreds of kids, of all ages, lose weight, eliminate medications and change their behavior to live healthy and happy lives. We have seen entire families adapt to a healthier lifestyle as they continue to participate in our weekly Fit 'n FUN Club activities, community walks, culinary and nutrition education and other engagement tools we have developed as part of our classroom and after-school curriculum, as well as our summer day camp enrichment program," says Shae Gawlak, Founder and Executive Director of Fit2beKids, a non-profit organization located in Southern California, with chapters in multiple states including Alaska, California and Colorado.

“Being on Welfare was the best thing that ever happened to me.”
After ten years of spousal abuse, financial, mental, and emotional hardship, I swallowed her pride to take care of my very young sons and applied for Welfare … a word and a program that had never entered my vocabulary growing up in an upper-middle class family.
But this “opportunity” allowed me to see the flaws in the system when it came to childhood obesity, healthy habits, nutrition and exercise for the underprivileged. So in 2009, I enrolled at Kaplan University in their Health & Wellness program to major in Nutrition. My plan was to make a REAL difference.
I knew that engaging + educating these at risk kids (and their parents) was essential to the wellbeing of an entire population. Luckily, my schooling taught how to develop a community outreach program. But the project didn’t end when the class was over, it was just the beginning of a hard-fought goal to change the lives of low-income + at-risk families, permanently.
Fit2beKids is now a thriving non-profit that encourages long-term health and educates about the dangers of sedentary lifestyles, using the great outdoors as a catalyst for change.
