Fit2beKids is an organization that changed our life for the better. Some of you may be aware of the challenges Mason, our 10 year old son, has faced on-a-daily basis. They're not insurmountable, but greater than those faced by most kids his age. We knew those challenges, but we couldn't get medical professionals to listen. We were turned away from services that could have greatly benefited Mason early on. By the time he was five, we were asked why we didn't seek early intervention for him, which was just maddening. He was shutout from receiving County services and we were told he'd only be able to receive assistance from the school once he entered kindergarten or if we went through our insurance, which wanted to fight us on the issue.
I lucked into Shae Gawlak and got hooked up with F2BK, and our lives haven't been the same. Shae and William Cook (Bill) took Mason under their wings and began the process of transforming him. We've been participating now for four and a half years. We've been given the courage to broaden Mason's opportunities (he's playing baseball and football now). This is a great non-profit program run by two of the best people I've been lucky enough to know for several years now. Please feel free to share so we can keep this program funded for all the kids who so greatly benefit from the services provide.

“Being on Welfare was the best thing that ever happened to me.”
After ten years of spousal abuse, financial, mental, and emotional hardship, I swallowed her pride to take care of my very young sons and applied for Welfare … a word and a program that had never entered my vocabulary growing up in an upper-middle class family.
But this “opportunity” allowed me to see the flaws in the system when it came to childhood obesity, healthy habits, nutrition and exercise for the underprivileged. So in 2009, I enrolled at Kaplan University in their Health & Wellness program to major in Nutrition. My plan was to make a REAL difference.
I knew that engaging + educating these at risk kids (and their parents) was essential to the wellbeing of an entire population. Luckily, my schooling taught how to develop a community outreach program. But the project didn’t end when the class was over, it was just the beginning of a hard-fought goal to change the lives of low-income + at-risk families, permanently.
Fit2beKids is now a thriving non-profit that encourages long-term health and educates about the dangers of sedentary lifestyles, using the great outdoors as a catalyst for change.
